RONKER is not the first state-of-the-art speednoise band to ever exist, but they are the first ones to coin the term. Formed in 2020 in the heart of the swamplands of Belgium the band comes naturally weathered and screaming bloody murder. RONKER’s music can be described as a mix between Danzig-era Misfits and Helmet, equally influenced by the earliest of hardcore-punk and 90’s alternative guitar music.
Since its inception RONKER can mainly be found on the road. Carving out an audience in the most old-school fashion: by playing live. Always visceral, urgent and frantic, RONKER is prime example of being staunchly committed to rock and roll athleticism. Throwing shapes and taking names.
Their debut album ‘Fear Is a Funny Thing, Now Smile Like a Big Boy’ was released on May 10 via LABELMAN. Throughout the record, the band bends the narrative and criticizes the need for rat-racing and conformism in shades of beige in the form of 11 blistering tracks.
Reactions were overwhelmingly positive, with journalists praising the band’s cross-over antics, also applauding RONKER for testing the limits of standard tuned guitars whilst retaining a hooky nature. The band was complimented on injecting a much needed boost of speed into the Belgian music scene.
The release of FIAFTNSLABB was celebrated with a sold-out concert in arguably Belgium’s most famous venue: the legendary AB club in Brussels.
Although RONKER likes to profile themselves as pleasant rascals with big hearts full of love, they are not really known for being the happiest kids in school. But that’s to be expected when you are caught somewhere in the no man’s land of being sonically indebted to both the likes of Judas Priest and Limp Bizkit. Always suffering, forever nervous.
